Two-for-One Lunch at Parrish’s Every Monday

14 Mar

Monday is notorious for being the worst day of the week. It doesn’t have to be when you have the option of bringing a friend to Parrish’s on Jackson Avenue and partaking in the two-for-one lunch special. Everything on the menu, from the taco salad to the shrimp and bacon wrap are two for the price of one from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Do you owe someone lunch? Maybe you want to say “Thank You”, “Happy Birthday”, or “You’re the Best.” I can’t think of a better day to sneak someone away from work than on a Monday–and without the guilt of spending a day’s earnings. So, who are you going to take to lunch today?

Bad Boy’z Update

13 Jan

Just found out that Bad Boy’z Pizza & Pub is NOT leaving Oxford! Due to a landlord dispute, the pizzeria’s owners had to leave the location on Jackson Ave., but plans are already in the works to move the pizzeria to the Square. Three spots are being discussed and once a final decision has been made, they hope to open by the time Double Decker rolls around in April.

Counting the days…

Looking for a Free Drink?

11 Jan

In Oxford, it pays to know people–especially your local bartender. Everyone has a story of how they got a free drink–or several–last weekend. However, there are still people, maybe even you, who haven’t learned the delicate art of getting on a bartender’s good side.

Would you be surprised to find out that sometimes all it takes is a simple smile?

Check out this article from Miami.com with real advice from bartenders, and test your new skills the next time you go out on the Square.

Goodbye Bad Boy’z; you will be missed.

22 Dec

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my favorite pizzeria in Oxford. I found out last night that Bad Boy’z closed its doors. No more Bad Boy’z Bread or calzones. No more Pizza Bread with marinara sauce…

Who will fill the void?

UPDATE: Bad Boy’z will return…see new post

Bad Boy’z is Good Eatz

9 Dec

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken someone to try the pizza at Bad Boy’z and the first thing they say is, “Hey, this is good!” And the second thing they say is, “But why don’t they cut it like normal pizza?”

If you’ve been to Bad Boy’z Pizza & Pub and wondered this very thought, you might be interested to know that the pizzeria and its owners came to Oxford from Moline, Illinois. The style of pizza cut you’re seeing is popularly known in the Midwest as a “party cut” (made for sharing, normally cut into even smaller squares than you see at Bad Boy’z). Yes, it’s different, but the pizza is still very tasty–some of the best in town.

The thing I don’t understand is that folks will tell me that they’ve tried the pizza–and like it–but haven’t gone back because they can’t get past the way the pizza is sliced. I’ll bet that if you ask nicely, they’ll gladly cut it into whatever shape you prefer.

What’s your opinion? Post your comments here or email me at foodie@eatingoxford.com.

UPDATE 12/22:

I’m very sorry to report that Bad Boy’z has closed its doors. Oxford will not be the same without that cheesy, wonderful goodness!!! I’ll miss you, Bad Boy’z.

Blue Pan Closes and Blind Pig takes its Spot

6 Oct

Well, not a huge surprise to most who tried it–or attempted to try it (they didn’t offer a full menu most of the time)–the Blue Pan Grille has shut its doors, opening a pathway for Blind Pig Pub and Deli to move into the abandoned space.

Rumor has it that the building Blind Pig was occupying was sold to investors who will be opening their own Ole Miss-themed bar. The outcome is yet to be seen as both locations are feverishly working to finish construction and open/reopen in time to take full advantage of those student dollars.
