The most popular barbecue restaurant in Starkville, Mississippi, is now opening in Oxford. Try to put aside any ill will you may feel for Starkville and think about the new grub you’ll be able to enjoy!
According to the company website, the menu was created around the time-honored recipes and sauces of the founders, Barry and Margaret Ann Wood. The name of the restaurant is a Wood Family tradition in which “a little dooey” means a fun gathering of friends and family.
Menu items will include barbecue, wraps, salads, sandwiches, desserts and family packs. You can view the full menu here.
There’s a temporary location already open (next to Honest Abe’s Donuts in the old beer barn), and the fully operational restaurant is set to open on August 16th at 1414 Jackson Avenue (inside the old 3 Guys Pizza building).
UPDATE 9/7: The Little Dooey permanent location is now open.
I love The Little Dooey in Oxford! I eat there at least once a week. I’m so glad it came to Oxford. The pulled pork and the fried green tomatoes has to be my top two favorite things on the menu! The Little Dooey is just amazing!
We went to little Dooeys its like a fast food bbq they can’t even sit you.You have to order at the door.We wont be back.They need to go back to starkville.
Barbecue from Starkville? I won’t be giving outsiders money as long as Handy Andy and other locally-owned wonderful places are in business.

Shanna, our collective sincere THANKS are in order for your forthright and honest opinion. A candid food review in Oxford is as scarce as beer on Sunday. Oxford IS the town that Pleasantville the movie was based on. Your comments are not only refreshing but life-sustaining in this town. When it comes to food and music in Oxford, all we hear are superlatives heaped on top of superlatives. Mick Jagger said “Gimme Contrast!”

I’ve tried their stuff at Honest Abe’s and was really disappointed. I guess I shouldn’t have expected much, since Oxford is hardly a BBQ mecca. But plain-tasting meat, no sauce (it’s on the side), no BREAD and some equally bland potato salad and super sweet baked beans on the side. Looking at the menu, prices seem high. $5.25 for chicken on a stick? $7.99 for a meat-and-two? Maybe I’m just cynical, but I don’t think that location will be any less cursed…
Unfortunatley the location in Honest Abe’s has been serving Little Dooey food that might be close to the original but isn’t “the original”. I have been working at the original location in Starkville for 4 years and will be managing the Oxford location along with my husband. Once we are open with the full scale menu at 1414 Jackson, I would like to invite you and a guest to come in and give us a second chance on the house. I promise you won’t be disappointed! Just ask for Lauren or Steven when you come in and we will take care of your meal.
