Some of the best news I’ve heard all week is that Vieux Carré, the property that was started in 2008 and then left sitting on the corner of North Lamar and Jefferson for almost two years has finally been given clearance to move forward to completion.
Belk Industries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2009 over the Square project, but the company has now contracted with Meadowbrook Capital, which has agreed to invest the $2 million needed to complete the building. They hope to have it fully built within eight months. No word if Bill Flowers has any involvement in this second run.
Plans are for the building to house office space, retail shops and restaurants.
