On a day such as today, with temperatures reaching a spring-like 65 degrees and the Square bustling thanks to the start of Ole Miss baseball season, seeing a sign that noted the forthcoming Ya-Ya’s Frozen Yogurt shop on the first floor of the Thompson House was a welcome treat.
Not too long from now we’ll put away our coats and gather at Sno-Biz for icy bliss, Holli’s Sweet Tooth for scoop upon luscious scoop of cool happiness in a cone, and now–hopefully in time for summer–Ya-Ya’s, for some low-cal frozen yogurt. Track the progress of Ya-Ya’s on Facebook here.
UPDATE 2/23/10 – OK, new details to report…Scott Winslow will be running the shop along with his friend Bart Smith who he met at the University of Florida (both have ties to Ole Miss). Bart says Ya-Ya’s will offer self-serve frozen yogurt, letting you choose from eight flavors (four rotating) and a toppings bar with fresh fruit and dry toppings. You’ll have the option to taste the yogurt flavors before you buy and create as large or small of a yogurt sundae as you like (prices will be calculated by ounce). Smoothies will also be available.
UPDATE 4/20/10: Your wait is over. Ya-Ya’s opens today!

The best looking, self-serve TCBY you’ll ever visit until it goes out of business and is replaced by something else.

Have to disagree with Daisha. Original (tart) is probably the best flavor there. Especially with the cereal toppings! The juxtaposition of sweet and sour is a fantastic taste experience.

Great idea. Vanilla is a little tart but I really like other flavors.
Employees need some training on good customer service.

Nice place for the hot temperatures. The Original (Tart) is awful. Very rude workers with very little customer service experience.

Very rude employees. Not very helpful. They want you in and out of their hair.

Yum! Loved the Cap’n Crunch toppings! Who would have thought of cereal on frozen yogurt? And Fruity Pebbles! Wow!

Yah! It’s one of my friend’s family who is starting YaYa’s. She and her sister both go to Ole Miss. Her brother is one of the guys from UF who is coming to help run it. I can’t wait for it to open!
